Southern Lions RUFC Appoint Ben MacDougall As Premiers coach and Sisa Waqa as backs Coach for 2021

Southern Lions would like to welcome incoming Premier Grade Head Coach, Ben MacDougall. Ben is a former Scotland international, PRO14 player, NRL player (Melbourne Storm) and Australian 7s consultant coach, Having coached in Scotland, Sri lanka, Thailand, Ben will be an outstanding addition to Southern Lions.


Ben brother of Adam and Luke brings with him a wealth of international rugby and professional rugby experience. having the experience, desire and ambition to bring Southern Lions into finals contention year in year out. With his time at Scotland working with the Scottish Development Program and developing his coaching skills Ben is ideally placed to develop the youth within Southern Lions.

We as a Rugby Club wish A big welcome to Ben Macdougall. We're also delighted to announce that Sisa Waqa, ex NRL Grand Final winner, French Top14 player and Fiji international will join the coaching team as Backs Coach. Sisa joined the club for the 2020 season and will transition into the role of Coach/Player for 2021. He will in conjunction with Ben bring both a playing and professional guiding influence on our players and we’re excited to see how he takes on this new challenge.

A big welcome to the coaching team, Sisa Waqa The combination of Ben and Sisa promises exciting times ahead. Ben will arrive in January. In the meantime Sisa is working with Ben on our preseason training program. Pre Season Training Preseason training has commenced and the Lions Club in conjunction with the coaches have appointed Jonny Vincenti of V-Athletic, as the new S&C trainer -.


The targets are that he along the coaches will bring a stronger and fitter squad in 2021. Forwards Coach The Lions Rugby Club are also in talks with an ex Super Rugby player to be our Forwards coach. More to be announced in the near future. Exciting times are ahead for Southern Lions and 2021 promises much. We have returning and new players adding to our depth.
